  • The World Heritage Committee (WHC) included the Palestinian site of Tell Umm Amer in both the UNESCO World Heritage Site List and the Lost of World Heritage in Danger during its 46th session in New Delhi. It is also known as the ‘Monastery of Saint Hilarion’, the site lies in the Gaza Strip which continues to reel under Israel’s relentless assault.
  • India has set a target to gasify 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030. This initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to enhance energy independence and maximize the utility of its abundant coal reserves, estimated at 378 billion tonnes, with about 199 billion tonnes classified as ‘proven’.
  • India was the second country after the US in initiating and imposing anti-dumping duties among World Trade Organisation (WTO) members last year. While India increased the use of non-tariff measures in 2023, its average tariffs during the year came down to 17% from 18.1% in 2022.
  • Australia has recently banned uranium mining at Jabiluka mines which is one of the world’s largest high grade uranium deposits located inside the Kakadu National park.
