  • National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Ministry of Home Affairs organized the two-day Anti-Terror Conference-2024.
  • The Indian Army, Navy and Air Force have launched a significant tri-services military exercise, ‘Poorvi Prahaar,’ Just days after reaching an agreement with China on de-escalation and patrolling along disputed areas in eastern Ladakh to train the forces in executing joint operations in mountainous terrain.
  • India boasts two institutions within the top 50 and seven in the top 100 of the QS Asia Rankings 2025, with IIT Delhi leading at 44th place.
  • The theme for the World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) 2024 is “Educate. Advocate. Act now.” in November 2024. WAAW is an annual global campaign aimed at raising awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and promoting best health practices.
  • The Himachal Pradesh government requested the union government’s help in reclaiming the 110 MW Shanan Hydropower Project from Punjab, asserting its rightful ownership. The Supreme Court of India has also directed the Union government to file its response in a plea by the Punjab Government.

  • The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) released its annual Adaptation Gap Report 2024: Come hell and high water. The report says that “Nations must dramatically increase climate adaptation efforts, starting with a commitment to act on finance at COP29″.
  • C-DOT and the telecom research and development (R&D) centre of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), have signed an agreement with IIT-Roorkee for the development of a “millimeter wave transceiver for 5G rural connectivity”.
  • The Gujarat government has introduced India’s first ‘Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-2027’ a historic step aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a Viksit Bharat@2047. Additionally, Dholera is being developed as India’s first Greenfield Smart City, this region, envisioned as ‘Semicon City,’ is a strategic hub aimed at attracting semiconductor investments and fostering industry growth.
  • UNESCO released the Global Education Monitoring Report 2024 at the Global Education Meeting hosted by Brazil. According to the report, the global out-of-school population has reduced by only 1% in nearly ten years, and chronic under-investment in education, particularly in low-income countries, is one of the main causes.
  • Recently, an autonomous surface vessel built by Sagar Defence Engineering completed a 1,500-km voyage from Mumbai to Thoothukudi without human intervention in an endeavour supported by the Indian Navy.
